The Spartans won despite getting next to nothing from their post duo of Adreian Payne and Derrick Nix, who combined for only 4 points on 2-of-7 shooting. Instead, Keith Appling and Branden Dawsen took over the game from the perimeter, accounting for almost all of Michigan State's offense with 37 points.
Wisconsin scored only 4 points in the last 7:30 minutes, as Michigan State was able to keep them in the half-court, where they had no one who could create any easy looks against Tom Izzo's fierce defense.
The win gives the Spartans some separation in a tight Big Ten race. They now have a 6-1 conference record while Wisconsin falls to 4-2.
