Wayne Blackshear, Kevin Ware out for Louisville vs. Pitt

The Cardinals will be without a pair of key players as they hope to avoid their fourth consecutive loss.

The Louisville Cardinals will be without forward Wayne Blackshear and guard Kevin Ware as they host the Pittsburgh Panthers on Monday night, Mike DeCourcy of the Sporting News reports. The school announced the pair of absences for Monday's game in the afternoon.

Blackshear, a sophomore, will be sitting out due to a shoulder injury he aggravated during practice over the weekend. The 6’5 guard missed most of his freshman year with a major injury to the same shoulder, so the Cardinals are understandably being cautious with the current situation.

20 games into the season, Blackshear has averaged 9.2 points and 3.9 rebounds in 22 minutes per game. He struggled badly in his most recent game, shooting 1-of-9 from the floor in the Cardinals’ loss to Georgetown.

Ware, a reserve guard, has been suspended by the team for undisclosed reasons. The sophomore has averaged 3.8 points and 1.5 rebounds in 15.8 minutes per game, shooting 43 percent from three-point range.

The Cardinals have lost three consecutive games since beginning the season with 16 wins in 17 games to eventually become the nation’s top-ranked team. With a 4-3 record in conference play, Louisville is currently tied for fifth in the Big East.
