Vander Blue dropped 30 points as Marquette moved into a tie with Syracuse atop the Big East standings.

Marquette struggled a bit in the first half, unable to capitalize on the Bulls’ sloppy effort. South Florida averages only 10.3 turnovers a game, but each team had eight turnovers just 12 minutes into the game.

Luckily for the Golden Eagles, Blue decided to have a career night. The team’s leading scorer with nearly 14 points a game, Blue scored nine straight points at one point during the first half to drag his team kicking and screaming to a four-point lead at half time. He ended the game with a career-high 30 points on 13-of-20 shooting. The rest of the Golden Eagles combined for 33 points on 14-of-29 shooting.

South Florida started to take better care of the ball as the game went along, but that didn’t translate into points too often. Freshman guard Javontae Hawkins led the team with 14 points on 6-of-9 shooting, but the rest of the team struggled. The Bulls shot 27.3 percent from the floor, with forward Zach LeDay going 2-for-10 and guard Anthony Collins missing every shot, ending 0-for-8. Toarlyn Fitzpatrick, the team's second leading scorer, finished with just three points.

The Bulls fell to 1-7 in Big East play and have now lost three consecutive conference games. With the win, Marquette is now tied with Syracuse on top of the Big East at 6-1.
