The Creighton Bluejays used a 52-point second-half effort to get past the Indiana St. Sycamores on Saturday afternoon, 79-66. The game was tied at 27 at halftime, but the Blue Jays shot better than 55 percent from the floor as a team to build some space.

The 16th-ranked Bluejays had to pull away in the second half from a scrappy Sycamore team, but had more than enough to get the job done.


Doug McDermott led the No. 16 Jays with 25 points and nine rebounds, and Gregory Echenique finished with 16 points and nine rebounds. Austin Chapman chipped in with 13 points and nine assists. Creighton out-rebounded Indiana State, 30-22, and had assists on 22 of their 27 field goals.
Jake Odum and Manny Arop led the Sycamores with 13 points apiece, and Odum led the team with six rebounds. Justin Gant had 12 points as well, but Gant and Odum combined to shoot only 9-25 from the floor.
Creighton will go for its ninth straight win when the team plays again on Tuesday, Jan. 8, hosting the Drake Bulldogs.
