Laurence Bowers injury: Missouri forward has sprained MCL, will miss 2 games

Missouri announced that Laurence Bowers will sit out at least the next two games as he recovers from an MCL sprain in his right knee.

Missouri confirmed Wednesday that senior forward Laurence Bowers has a sprained MCL and will miss at least the Tigers next two games before his knee is reexamined. Bowers sustained the knee injury on Tuesday night in the waning minutes of Mizzou's game against Alabama, an 84-68 win in their SEC debut. Head coach Frank Haith said after the game that he suspected it was a sprained MCL, and that diagnosis is now official one day later.

Bowers is a redshirt senior with past knee problems, as he was forced to sit out Missouri’s entire 2011-12 season after tearing his ACL. The Tigers had a remarkable year, but lacked a significant inside presence. Bowers returned this season to provide that production at the forward position, and appeared to regain his old form. He’s averaging 16.8 points, 6.9 rebounds, and 28.4 minutes per game.

At 12-2, Missouri is ranked in the top 10 as they start their first season in the SEC. Losing Bowers is a significant blow, but hopefully for Haith and the Tigers, he will only miss a few games while recovering from the MCL sprain.
