Iowa vs. Notre Dame final score: Iowa wins high scoring affair, 98-93

The Hawkeyes are the first Big Ten team to take home a victory in the 2013 edition of the Big Ten/ACC Challenge.

The Iowa Hawkeyes needed every one of Aaron White's 20 points to hold off the Notre Dame Fighting Irish and pick up a 98-93 win on Tuesday.

Fighting Irish center Garrick Sherman scored a career-high 29 points to try and keep Notre Dame within striking distance. Iowa began to build a lead over the final 10 minutes of the opening period, taking a nine-point lead into the break. They shot 57.6 percent from the field in the first half, and after a few sloppy minutes to open the game, didn't commit a turnover for the final 16 minutes.

Notre Dame came out strong in the second half, going on a 10-0 run to take the lead at 57-55. The teams traded baskets, but White helped spur Iowa’s final push, scoring seven of his 20 points in the final five minutes. He was one of five Hawkeyes to score in double digits; they shot 56.9 percent as a team.

Iowa attacked the paint quickly and often. Jarrod Uthoff contributed 17 points, eight of those coming from the free-throw line. It was all enough to keep Notre Dame at arm's length. Eric Atkins added 23 points and Jerian Grant chipped in 13 points and 10 assists for the Irish.
