Iowa vs. Drake final score: Hawkeyes win behind balanced attack

Four Hawkeyes scored in double figures as Iowa cruised to a 17-point win.

10 Iowa players scored, including four in double figures, as the No. 23 Hawkeyes rolled past Drake, 83-66, on Saturday in Des Moines.

Melsahn Basabe led the way with 15 points, while Jarrod Uthoff had 13 and nine rebounds.

Iowa actually played catchup for much of the first half, but the Hawkeyes scored the last 10 points to take a 49-40 lead into intermission. The Hawkeyes weren’t threatened in the second half either, quickly extending the lead to double figures and never looking back.

Iowa set itself apart Saturday on the glass. The Hawkeyes won the battle of the boards, 47-28, outscored the Bulldogs 42-12 in the paint and scored 29 second-chance points to just five from Drake.

Chris Caird had 21 points on 7-of-11 shooting to lead Drake, which fell to 6-2 with the loss. Richard Carter scored 18 more.

The Hawkeyes are now 9-1 but have a tough contest against No. 17 Iowa State looming on Dec. 13.
