Oklahoma had the ball with 33 seconds left and the game tied, but Oklahoma State clamped down on the defense and forced Oklahoma to take another timeout with just four seconds left on the shot clock. Forward Romero Osby tossed up an airball for a shot clock violation with 6.2 seconds left on the clock. Marcus Smart missed a last-second shot and the two teams headed into overtime.

The teams traded baskets back and forth in overtime, and the rowdy crowd of the Cowboys hit fever pitch levels. Sam Grooms lost the handle in overtime around mid-court to give the Cowboys a three point lead with 28 seconds left in the game. It was an unfortunate error by Grooms, who otherwise had the best game of his career, hitting a career-high 18 points on 9-of-11 shooting.

The game lived up to the billing for the in-state rivals. Both teams finished with four players in double figures. Both teams took care of the ball, with only a total of 13 turnovers in the game.

Romero Osby scored 18 points with 15 rebounds and Steven Pledger added 18 for the Cowboys who continued their road struggles in Big 12 play. They have now lost their last four of five games on the road.

Marcus Smart and Le’Bryan Nash were stellar for the Cowboys, who finished with 28 and 26 points. It is the fourth time in six games that Smart has scored more than 20.

The Cowboys moved to the top of the Big 12 for the time being. Kansas plays Texas later today and Kansas State will take on Baylor.
