Longwood vs. Liberty: Teams combine for 55 points in final 4 minutes
Longwood and Liberty scored 203 points on Tuesday night. They delivered one of the wildest finishes you’ll ever see.

With 3:55 remaining on the clock, the final media timeout was called. Longwood held a 80-68 lead. That’s high scoring in today’s college basketball world, but it’s not anything crazy or unheard of.
Then came 55 points to close out the game. Liberty scored 33, while Longwood scored 22. In the final two minutes, 34 points were scored. It ended 102-101, Longwood.
So how did Liberty get all those points in such a hurry? They hit seven three-pointers, made all four of their free throws and did not turn the ball over. Their team strategy was to run down the court, make a pass or two and chuck up the first semi-clean look they got. Everything just happened to go in.
Longwood went 15-for-22 from the free throw line in the final 3:55. In the first 36 minutes of regulation, they had gone to the line just 19 times. Despite Liberty’s hot shooting, the Lancers somehow never coughed up the lead down the stretch.
It was a night to remember for two teams with a combined record of 15-41.
Tristan Carey had one of the most impressive stat lines you'll ever see: 40 points on 12-for-22 shooting, including 8-for-15 from behind the arc. Carey brought down 12 rebounds. Jeylani Dublin and Michael Kessens chipped in with 17 points each.
Liberty was led by Davon Marshall's 31 points. John Caleb Sanders recorded a double-double with 24 points, 10 assists and seven rebounds. As a team, the Flames shot 54.4 percent from the field.
