No. 2 Miami vs. Virginia final score: Hurricanes survive upset scare with 54-50 win

For the third game in a row, Miami narrowly defeated an opponent they probably should’ve handled easily.

Robert Mayer-USA TODAY Sports

The Miami Hurricanes have made it a habit of winning close games in recent weeks. Tuesday night was no different as the No. 2 Hurricanes knocked off Virginia, 54-50, in front of a rowdy crowd at the Bank United Center.

Joe Harris tied the game at 50-50 with a three-pointer that banked in with just 10 seconds remaining. Miami came down and found Reggie Johnson wide open under the basket for an easy lay-in to make it 52-50. With one final chance to tie or win, Virginia's inbounds pass was stolen by Durand Scott. Scott hit both free throws, securing another key win for the 'Canes.

Miami is now 12-0 against ACC foes this season.

Shane Larkin had 11 points and seven rebounds for Miami. Rion Brown chipped in with 10 points and four rebounds off the bench.

Joe Harris led Virginia with 16 points and seven boards. No other player on the Cavaliers reached double-digits in scoring. Akil Mitchell had a solid showing with six points and eight rebounds.

Next up for No. 2 Miami is a road trip to Wake Forest on Saturday afternoon. Virginia will host Georgia Tech on Sunday afternoon.
