College hoops Wednesday viewing guide: Kansas looks for a flip against OSU

A Big 12 showdown between No. 9 Kansas and No. 14 Oklahoma State highlights Wednesday’s slate. The Cowboys stunned the Jayhawks in Lawrence last month.

USA TODAY Sports

Providence at No. 8 Syracuse (7 p.m./ESPN)

The Friars will put their first four-game conference winning streak in nearly a decade on the line against a Syracuse team they haven't beaten in their last five tries. With three assists tonight, Friar point guard Vincent Council will move past Sherman Douglas to become the Big East's all-time leader in that category.

Oklahoma at Texas Tech (7 p.m./ESPN2)

The Sooners aren't in a position where they can afford to sulk over Saturdays' crushing overtime loss to rival Oklahoma State. That's not good news for Texas Tech.

Minnesota at No. 18 Ohio State (7 p.m./Big Ten Network)

Both teams have lost three of their last four and are coming off of embarrassingly one-sided Sunday losses. The Buckeyes play really well at home and the Gophers have been horrendous on the road. Seems pretty clear cut.

Xavier at Rhode Island (7 p.m./Fox Sports Ohio)

Rhody has won two straight and suddenly has an outside shot at making the A-10 tournament. Xavier, meanwhile, pretty much has to have this one if it wants to be anywhere near the bubble once A-Tensity rolls around. I'm sorry, it's been a long day and I thought an Arch-Madness-eque nickname for the A-10 tournament might be able to save it. I shouldn't have taken my personal problems out on you. Let's do Red Lobster carryout. My treat.

South Florida at St. John's (7 p.m./SNY)

St. John's is in pretty much the same situation as Xavier tonight. The Johnnies aren't quite in the main bubble conversation, and need to take care of business against a league bottom-dweller to have a shot at changing that.

DePaul at No. 11 Georgetown (7 p.m./MASN)

Georgetown has won seven straight games, which is identical to DePaul's winning streak of one when you convert for"DePaul wins," so there's a lot on the line for both teams tonight. Fear the D.

No. 9 Kansas at No. 14 Oklahoma State (9 p.m./ESPN2)

Never forget.

I'd love to see Smart go off and then end the game with a flip again, but then the trainers would have to send away for new shorts to accomodate his gargantuan genitalia.

Iowa State at Baylor (9 p.m./ESPNU)

Three teams in the Big 12 are 7-5. These are two of them. The Cyclones beat the Bears 78-71 back on Feb. 2.

No. 19 Wisconsin at Northwestern (9 p.m./Big Ten Network)

The Badgers showed some solid resiliency by bouncing back from a frustrating overtime loss to Minnesota by pounding Ohio State on Sunday. Still, as Bucky's 5th Quarter points out, Wisconsin is just 1-4 in games following a win over an opponent ranked in the Top 25 this season, with all four losses coming on the road and two of those losses coming to unranked opponents.

No. 22 Colorado State at UNLV (10 p.m./CBS Sports Network)

Despite being one of the more disappointing teams in the country this season, the Runnin' Rebels are still 15-1 inside the Thomas & Mack Center. There's a reason Vegas is a solid 4-point favorite.

Washington at No. 12 Arizona (11 p.m./ESPN2)

Walton Wednesday, y'all.

Santa Clara at No. 3 Gonzaga (11 p.m./ESPNU)

Kevin Foster and Marc Trasolini are more than capable of keeping the Broncos in this one, but Santa Clara has absolutely no answer inside for Kelly Olynyk. Don't be surprised if the big man has another 30 plus night.
