Bobby Valentine named AD at Sacred Heart, per report

It looks like Bobby V will follow a controversial 2012 with an interesting 2013, as the embattled former Red Sox manager will reportedly become the athletic director of a D-1 program.

Former Major League Baseball manager Bobby Valentine is the new athletic director at Sacred Heart University, according to William Paxton of the Boston Globe. The school is expected to officially announce the hiring at a press conference on Tuesday.

For more on this story, head over to SB Nation's college basketball hub.

Valentine holds no previous administrative experience in college athletics, but spent parts of 16 seasons managing the Texas Rangers, New York Mets and Boston Red Sox, in addition to holding managerial jobs in the minor leagues and Nippon Professional Baseball in Japan. Outside of baseball, Valentine owns a bar and has served as the Director of Public Safety and Health in Stamford, Conn.

Sacred Heart's football team finished the 2012 football season with a record of 2-9, while its basketball program currently holds a 9-16 record, including 7-7 in Northeast Conference play. While those aren't stellar records, Valentine's biggest challenge may be turning around SHU's hockey squad; the Pioneers' skaters are 1-26 on the season.
