No. 20 Pittsburgh vs. St. John’s final score: Tray Woodall scores 25 as Panthers win

The Pittsburgh Panthers got an efficient game from Tray Woodall and quieted the St. John’s Red Storm’s D’Angelo Harrison in a road victory.

Senior guard Tray Woodall scored a season-high 25 points for the Pittsburgh Panthers, and his team held the St. John's Red Storm to 31.6 percent shooting in a 63-47 win for the Panthers in Madison Square Garden on Sunday.

Woodall hit 8 of 14 shots, including four three pointer,s in his highest scoring game since a 24-point outing against Duquesne on Dec. 5.

The Red Storm’s leading scorer, D’Angelo Harrison, struggled mightily on Sunday. The 18.3-points-per-game scorer went 1 for 12 from the field and scored just six points on the day. Jakarr Sampson led St. John’s with 14 points, but ultimately the 16-11 squad didn’t have enough firepower to win while going 2-for-11 from three-point range.

No. 20 Pittsburgh (21-7) opened the game with a three-pointer by Woodall and led the entire first half. St. John’s trailed, 30-27, at halftime and took its first lead a minute into the second half. Woodall took the lead change to heart, scoring the next eight points for the Panthers to give Pitt a 38-33 advantage with 16:46 to play in the game.

The Panthers never relinquished the lead again.
