Antonio Barton injury: Memphis guard aims for postseason return

The Memphis Tigers could have junior guard Antonio Barton back in time for the Conference USA Tournament.

USA TODAY Sports

The Memphis Tigers might get back junior guard Antonio Barton in time for the Conference USA Tournament, Jon Rothstein of CBS Sports reported on Monday.

Barton went down with a broken foot in the early minutes of a 89-76 win over the Southern Miss Golden Eagles on Feb. 9. He has missed the past four games, but is out of the walking boot and coach Josh Pastner hopes he will be back in time for the postseason.

Barton averages 6.2 points a game for the Tigers, but his biggest contributions are usually on the defensive end. He is averaging one steal a game and is usually tasked with guarding the opposition’s better guards.

The Tigers are in one of their best stretches in team history, currently riding a 17-game winning streak -- good for longest in the nation. The win streak is also the fifth-longest win streak in team history.

Barton plays close to 20 minutes a game and will provide some more depth for Pastner to work with. The Tigers don’t run very deep, with usually only eight players getting meaningful minutes.
