College hoops Wednesday TV guide: 4 top 10 teams take the court

Another busy Wednesday in the world of college hoops is highlighted by top 10 teams Michigan, Miami, Georgetown and Louisville all taking the floor in conference action.

USA TODAY Sports

No. 4 Michigan at Penn State (6:30 p.m./Big Ten Network)

The Wolverines were asleep (figuratively) for most of their 79-71 win over the Nittany Lions 10 days ago. A superior performance will be expected this evening.

No. 7 Georgetown at Connecticut (7 p.m./ESPN)

Suddenly, Georgetown is arguably the hottest team in the country and in complete control of its own title destiny in the Big East. They’ll be walking into an awfully tough situation tonight against a UConn team that treats games like this one as its postseason.

No. 15 Oklahoma State vs. TCU (7 p.m./ESPNU)

West Virginia and TCU are about as forgiving a pair of bounceback opponents as Okie State could hope for following their crushing double overtime loss to Kansas last week.

South Florida at No. 23 Pittsburgh (7 p.m./MASN/SNY)

South Florida’s only Big East win this season is over Georgetown...the team which currently sits all alone in first place and has lost only that game over almost two months. College basketball in 2012-13, folks.

Saint Joseph’s at No. 18 Saint Louis (8 p.m./CBS Sports Network)

Winners of 10 straight and 18 of 20 since the passing of former head coach Rick Majerus, the Billikens are still the best story in college basketball right now.

Northern Iowa at Southern Illinois (8 p.m./Fox Sports Midwest)

While everyone else is beating up on one another, Northern Iowa has quietly won six straight in The Valley.

Baylor at West Virginia (8 p.m./YES/Altitude)

I said last time these two played that I’d write the next day’s post in Spanish if West Virginia outscored its football team’s point total against the Bears. Well, let’s go double or nothing...which I guess means I’ll write tomorrow’s post in French? I was never very good at gambling.

Purdue at Iowa (8:30 p.m./Big Ten Network)

Hammer and Rails and BHGP tell you everything you need to know.

Oklahoma at Texas (9 p.m./ESPN2)

Texas has been better since the return of Myck Kabongo, who almost single-handedly makes this an extremely dangerous game for a Sooner team that would slip a little closer to the at-large danger zone with a loss.

No. 10 Louisville at DePaul (9 p.m./ESPNU)

It’s what they call “DePaul Day” in Louisville, and folks in the Derby City have been making quite merry.

San Diego State at No. 14 New Mexico (10 p.m./CBS Sports Network)

A win tonight and you can start etching New Mexico’s name into the Mountain West regular season championship trophy. I’m just assuming they do that.

Colorado at Stanford (11 p.m./ESPN2)

Stanford has probably already played itself out of the NCAA Tournament discussion, but Colorado is squarely on the bubble with two and-a-half weeks to go until Selection Sunday.

Saint Mary’s at Pepperdine (11 p.m./ESPNU)

No team is more disputed by the AP and coaches’ poll voters than Saint Mary’s. The Gaels are No. 23 in this week’s USA Today poll, and the sixth team “also receiving votes” in the AP Top 25.
