No. 7 Georgetown vs. Connecticut final score: Hoyas escape with 79-78 victory in double overtime

Georgetown overcame a rough first half to win despite giving up a five-point lead in the final minute.

The No. 7 Georgetown Hoyas survived a scare in Storrs, beating the Connecticut Huskies, 79-78, on Wednesday night. Otto Porter Jr. hit a difficult runner with just seconds to go in the second overtime to give Georgetown the win.

The teams went to halftime with UConn leading 22-19, but the lid came off the cylinder following the break. Georgetown put away 43 points and the Huskies notched 40 in a more exciting second frame.

The Hoyas benefited from 55 percent shooting from beyond the arc while the Huskies who struggled from outside, shooting just 37.9 percent.

Three Hoyas ended the night in double figures, with Porter Jr. leading the way with 22 points followed closely by Markel Starks at 19 points. D'Vauntes Smith-Rivera came off the bench to put away 14 points, including a steal and layup with just over a minute to go to extend the Georgetown lead to five near the end of regulation.

DeAndre Daniels topped all scorers and recorded a double-double, with 25 points and 10 rebounds. Three other Huskies had double-digit points, including Shabazz Napier with 16 points of his own. Omar Calhoun, who tied the game at the end of regulation with a three pointer, finished the evening with 13 points. Ryan Boatright also joined them with 11 points.
