Scott Martin injury: Notre Dame senior faces career-ending knee surgery

Notre Dame senior captain Scott Martin has seen his last game with the Irish, opting to undergo season- and career-ending knee surgery after a lengthy absence from the court.

Notre Dame Fighting Irish forward Scott Martin will be shut down for the remainder of the season, according to CBS Sports' Jeff Goodman, and faces a third knee surgery that will likely put an end to his career.

For more on this story, head over to One Foot Down.

Martin, who serves as a captain for Notre Dame, last appeared in the team's 61-47 loss to Georgetown on Jan. 21. He played 18 scoreless minutes in that game before Brey decided to rest the sixth-year senior indefinitely.

After transferring to Notre Dame from Purdue, Martin tore his ACL prior to ever stepping on the court for the Irish. He averaged 7.9 points and 5.9 rebounds this season, a drop in production from the previous two years.

Martin will travel with the team and participate in Senior Night activities, according to the school.

Notre Dame has played well without its leader, posting a 7-2 record including wins over Louisville and Pittsburgh.
