Syracuse started out Big East conference play with six straight wins, including wins over then-No. 1 Louisville, but dropped their past two games on the road. Forwards C.J. Fair and Jerami Grant led the way to Syracuse's 36th straight victory in the Carrier Dome.

The Fighting Irish struggled against the Syracuse zone after Notre Dame made their grand re-entry into the national rankings earlier on Monday. Senior forward Jack Cooley, the team's leading scorer at 15 points per game, was held to 10 points on 4-for-8 shooting. He added 11 rebounds and three blocks. Notre Dame shot just 34.6 percent as a team.

Freshman forward Jerami Grant had a career night against his older brother, Irish guard Jerian Grant. Jerami finished with a career-high 14 points and six rebounds. Jerian, a junior, finished the game with 15 points to lead the Irish, and added five assists and four turnovers.

The inside presence was necessary ,as the outside shot just wasn't falling for Syracuse. The team was 4-for-15 overall from the three-point line, with guard Brandon Triche going 0-for-5 from beyond the arc.

With the win, Syracuse takes sole possession of the top spot in the Big East standings, as Marquette doesn’t play until Wednesday.
