2013 MEAC Tournament results and bracket: Business as usual as all higher seeds advance

There hasn’t been a whole lot of drama in the MEAC Tournament so far, but that might change as the top seeds enter the tournament on Wednesday and Thursday after first-round byes.

Mark Dolejs-US PRESSWIRE

The second round of the Mid-Eastern American Conference Tournament gets underway on Wednesday as the all the higher seeds in the first round advanced after winning on Monday and Tuesday nights.

The sixth-seeded Delaware St. Hornets got a career night from junior guard Albert Thomas who scored 21 points in a win over the 11th-seeded Howard Bison. Thomas, who 4.1 points per game, went 7-10 from the field and added six assists for the Hornets. Delaware St. took a 12-point lead into halftime and never relinquished control in the second half. The Hornets will go onto face the third-seeded Hampton Pirates on Thursday.

The Bethune-Cookman Wildcats dropped 89 points on the Coppin St. Eagles as they snapped a three-game losing streak and avenged a season-ending loss to the Eagles. Adrien Coleman, the MEAC's leading scorer with 17.6 points per game, scored 28 points, adding nine rebounds and seven assists. Guard Kevin Dukes kicked in 22 points which helped offset Eagles guard Taariq Cephas' 27 points. With the win, the Wildcats will face the top-seeded Norfork St. Spartans.

The seventh-seeded North Carolina A&T Aggies used a 40-point second half to push past the 10th-seeded Florida A&M Rattlers 65-54. The Aggies only led by one at half, but guard Lamont Middleton stepped up in a big way, scoring all 12 of his points in the second half as he sliced his way to the lane. The Aggies will face the second-seeded North Carolina Central Eagles in the second round.
