Rutgers vs. DePaul results: Rutgers lives to play another day, 76-57

The Rutgers Scarlet Knights won their first game of the Big East tournament handily over DePaul and will go on to face Notre Dame in the second round.

USA TODAY Sports

The Rutgers Scarlet Knights will live to play another game after dispatching the DePaul Blue Demons 76-57 in the first round of the Big East Tournament on Tuesday night.

DePaul matched everything Rutgers threw at them in the first half, and the Scarlet Knights only went into the locker room at halftime with a one-point lead. The second half was a different story though.

Junior forward Wally Judge scored 13 of his 20 points in the second half, and, combined with sophomore guard Myles Mack's 19 points, Rutgers was easily able to polish off DePaul in the second half for the victory.

DePaul forward Cleveland Melvin led all scorers in the game with 25 points, but he didn't get much help from the rest of his team. Brandon Young and Worrel Clahar were the only other Blue Demons to score more than two points as the team shot 41.5 percent from the floor.

The Blue Demons didn’t have an answer for Judge, who normally averages 6.8 points per game, as he went 9-9 from the field. He added 10 rebounds for his third double-double of the season.

With the win, the Scarlet Knights will go onto face the sixth-seeded Notre Dame Fighting Irish in the second round of the Big East Tournament on Wednesday.
