Syracuse vs. Seton Hall results: James Southerland leads Orange to 75-63 win

Syracuse came out a bit sloppy to kick off their conference tournament. An inspired performance in the second half halted any chance Seton Hall had at pulling the upset.

The Syracuse Orange entered the Big East Tournament as a team searching for its identity. On Wednesday afternoon, they took a step toward regaining their footing with a 75-63 win over Seton Hall.

The final outcome was not indicative of how close the game was for the first 25 minutes. Seton Hall came out aggressive and hit some tough shots to keep their upset bid alive. Syracuse dominated the final minutes though, outscoring the Pirates by 14 points in the final 15 minutes.

James Southerland was the star at Madison Square Garden. The senior forward hit six 3-pointers to end his day with 20 points. Michael Carter-Williams had just six points, but his 14-assist, no-turnover performance ranks as one of the best in Big East Tournament history.

It seemed Seton Hall just ran out of gas down the stretch. After winning an emotional game in overtime over South Florida the day before, their endurance faltered under the bright lights. Aaron Cosby led the Pirates with 22 points.

One of the big differentials in the game was rebounding. SU brought down 25 boards, including eight on the offensive end. SHU had 18 total rebounds.

With the win, Syracuse will face No. 4 seed Pittsburgh on Thursday afternoon.
