Big 12 Tournament 2013 schedule and bracket: Semifinals set for Friday night
No real surprises so far in the Big 12 Tournament, as three of the conference’s top four seeds are playing in the semifinals Friday night.
Iowa State lost a pair of high-scoring contests to Kansas during the regular season, and get a shot at a rematch because they were able to overcome a 12-point deficit against the Oklahoma Sooners well into the second half of their quarterfinal game. Iowa State blitzed Oklahoma to the tune of a 25-6 run to end the game, winning, 73-66.
Kansas had a much easier time in their quarterfinal contest against the Texas Tech Red Raiders. Leading by nine at the half, the Jayhawks almost hung 60 on Texas Tech in the second half (they'd net 57), cruising to a 91-63 victory.
The second semifinal features the second-seeded Kansas State Wildcats against the third-seeded Oklahoma State Cowboys at 10 p.m. ET on ESPNU. The Wildcats made easy work of the Texas Longhorns in the quarters, dispatching them, 66-49, in a game that didn't have a whole lot of drama.
Oklahoma State, on the other hand, didn't make it so easy on themselves against the Baylor Bears. Baylor crawled out of an 18-point halftime hole, culminated by Gary Franklin's three-pointer-plus-the-foul four-point play, which tied the game with 21 seconds left in regulation. Cowboys' freshman guard Phil Forte then drew a foul on a drive and drilled both free throws to save Oklahoma State from near-disaster. It sets up a rubber match between Oklahoma State and Kansas State, as each team won on their home floor during the regular season.
