A-10 basketball tournament 2013 results and bracket: VCU advances to face Saint Louis in title game

The Atlantic 10 tournament final will feature two ranked teams, as VCU takes on Saint Louis.

Howard Smith-USA TODAY Sports

With a 71-62 victory over UMass in Saturday's semifinal, the VCU Rams advance to face the Saint Louis Billikens in the Atlantic 10 tournament finals Sunday afternoon. The two teams will tip off for the conference championship, and the automatic NCAA Tournament bid, at 1 p.m. ET on CBS.

Both ranked in the AP Top 25, VCU and Saint Louis are locks to reach the NCAAs regardless of what happens Sunday, but the results could affect the seeding for each team. In his latest edition, SB Nation’s resident bracketologist Chris Dobbertean sees Saint Louis as a No. 4 seed and VCU as a No. 6 seed.

The Rams and Billikens played once earlier this season, a 76-62 home win by Saint Louis on Feb. 19.

Senior guard Troy Daniels powered VCU over UMass on in the semifinal when the team's other shots just weren't falling. Shooting 7-of-10 from the field, including 6-of-9 from beyond the arc, Daniels led the Rams with 20 points as his teammates shot a combined 18-of-60 (30 percent).

The loss is particularly costly for the Minutemen as they sat on the bubble entering Saturday. UMass now looks to land an at-large bid with a 21-11 record, a long shot given the lack of quality wins on its resume.

Saint Louis defeated Butler, 67-56, in the first semifinal matchup Saturday afternoon to earn its appearance in the final.
