Oregon wins 2013 Pac-12 basketball tournament

Oregon dominated UCLA to win the Pac-12 tournament and claim the automatic NCAA bid.

The Oregon Ducks defeated the UCLA Bruins, 78-69, to take home the Pac-12 tournament crown.

This game looked to be tilting in UCLA’s favor, when they took a 12-6 and Oregon looked sloppy. The Ducks quickly established their tempo, however, taking the lead and never relinquishing it. They rained seven three-pointers in the first half. The Ducks made 48.4 percent of their field goals and went into halftime up 41-32.

The Bruins attempted to come back in the second half. An 8-2 run shaved the deficit down to three points, but UCLA were never able to come back out ahead. The Bruins never held a lead in the second half. By the end the game became a comedy of errors, with head-scratching turnovers and missed dunks abounding. Oregon sank enough free throws at the end to ice the game and pad the scoreboard.

Carlos Emory led the way with 20 points, and Johnathan Loyd wasn't far behind with 19. Arsalan Kazemi put up a double-double (12 points, 12 rebounds) and the team as a whole sank 7 of 14 three-pointers. Shabazz Muhummad and Larry Drew II both had 14 points to lead the Bruins..

Both teams will be dancing next week, so this game doesn’t have many implications other than possible seedings. Oregon is expected to get a seed somewhere in the 6-8 range. Meanwhile, UCLA’s loss probably cost them a shot at a No. 4 seed.
