No. 13 Kansas State vs. Baylor final score: McGruder’s buzzer-beater stuns Bears, lifts K-State to 64-61 win

Rodney McGruder led Kansas State with 18 points, but none were bigger than the three he cashed in at the buzzer to lift his Wildcats over Baylor Saturday night.

Rodney McGruder hit a three at the buzzer to lift his Kansas State Wildcats over the Baylor Bears, 64-61, Saturday night in Waco, Texas.

Baylor initially thought it would have the final possession of the game, but the Bears threw a baseball pass the length of the court - and it sailed out of bounds untouched. That gave the ball back to the Wildcats with exactly one second left, setting up the game winner:

With March finally here, McGruder’s shot had plenty of postseason implications. Kansas State was looking to stay even with Kansas for first place in the Big 12 standings, while Baylor was in desperate need of a quality win. The Bears find themselves now likely on the wrong side of the bubble with just one Top 25 win under their belt.

Neither team led by more than six points the entire way. Down one at intermission, Kansas State opened the second half with seven unanswered points and did not relinquish the lead until Cory Jefferson connected on a layup, plus a foul, to send the Waco crowd into a frenzy with under four minutes to go.

The Wildcats answered almost immediately however, on a three from Angel Rodriguez. The sophomore guard then hit Jordan Henriquez with a lob on the ensuing possession to put the Wildcats back in the driver's seat.

Pierre Jackson led the Bears with 18 points and got to the free throw line on three consecutive possessions late in the game, to tie things up with 35 seconds left.
