The Kansas Jayhawks would have to be the victim of a historic upset on Friday night in order to not advance to the Round of 32. However, that's exactly what the Western Kentucky Hilltoppers are going to attempt.
2013 NCAA basketball tournament: Game time, TV schedule for Kansas vs. Western Kentucky
The Kansas Jayhawks should be through to the Round of 32 without much trouble. However, that won’t stop Western Kentucky from trying to make history.
No top seed has ever lost to a 16-seed in NCAA Tournament history, so the numbers and history are on Kansas' side. Talent is also on their side, as they should enjoy a significant advantage in that regard. Freshman guard Ben McLemore led the Jayhawks in scoring this season with 16.4 points per game, and senior big man Jeff Withey averaged 13.6 points and 8.4 rebounds per game while leading Kansas to their ninth Big 12 championship.
The No. 16 Hilltoppers are making their second consecutive NCAA Tournament appearance. However, at 20-15 on the year, they had to win the Sun Belt Tournament to do so. Their best shot at taking down Kansas would probably be getting hot from three-point range, but that doesn’t seem particularly likely, considering they were tied for 246th in the nation this season in three point percentage.
Game time, TV: Friday, March 22, 9:50 p.m. ET, TNT
Location: Sprint Center, Kansas City, Mo.
