NIT bracket and scores 2013: Baylor, Iowa advance

The No. 2 Baylor Bears and the No. 3 Iowa Hawkeyes avoided upsets and advanced to the third round of the NIT.

The second round of the NIT started on Saturday, and the two top-seeded teams in action survived to the third round.

The No. 2 Baylor Bears survived in the first game of the night, defeating the No. 3 Arizona St. Sun Devils 89-86. The Sun Devils actually led Baylor 31-29 at half, but Baylor scored 60 points in the final 20 minutes to win the game. Pierre Jackson had an incredibly impressive performance, scoring 26 points and dishing out 16 assists. Cory Jefferson scored 21 points, while Brady Heslip added 14.

The No. 3 Iowa Hawkeyes won the second NIT game, defeating the No. 7 Stony Brook Seawolves 75-63. Roy Devyn Marble had a huge game for Iowa, scoring 28 points.

Baylor will either face the No. 4 Providence Friars or the No. 8 Robert Morris Colonials in the third round of the tournament. Iowa will play the winner of the No. 1 Virginia Cavaliers and the No. 5 St John's Red Storm matchup.
