When the brackets were announced, many experts had Arizona losing to Belmont in the second round. Just about every expert had New Mexico winning handily over Harvard.
2013 March Madness: Game time, TV schedule for Arizona vs. Harvard
A college hoops powerhouse squares off with Cinderella in this Round of 32 battle.
On Thursday, Arizona dominated the Bruins, while Harvard pulled the biggest upset of the tournament as they knocked off the three-seeded Lobos, 68-62.
On Saturday, fans will get to see a classic David vs. Goliath story.
UA has been one of the top programs on the West Coast for the past 30 years. Led by coach Sean Miller, the Wildcats once featured a 20-2 record and sat No. 3 in the polls. A lackluster showing against the Pac-12 was a cause for concern though, and the selection committee reflected that with their seeding.
The 'Cats go as guards Mark Lyons and Nick Johnson go. When both are playing well and under control, Arizona is one of the best in the country. When they aren't, UA is awfully vulnerable to being upset.
As for Harvard, they picked up their first NCAA Tournament win on Thursday night. It was a great achievement for coach Tommy Amaker, whose team ranks as one of the best shooting squads in the nation. They hit 48 percent of their field goal attempts, including 40 percent from behind the arc.
The difference in this game will be Arizona’s size. The ‘Cats are much bigger than the Crimson, much like they were against Belmont. Look for UA to crash the boards and protect the rim very well. If Harvard is going to pull another upset, they’ll have to be locked in from behind the arc.
