For a while -- about 35 minutes, actually -- Brad Stevens was stone cold. He had his poker face on and wasn’t showing any emotion at all. This is normal for him, a man who always looks like he knows something you don’t.
And then a basket interference call happened. It was the right call, mind you, after a Butler player hit the rim as the ball was over the cylinder. Stevens didn’t see it that way, though, and was incredibly angry.

USA TODAY SportsWith the win, Oregon advances to the Sweet 16 to face No. 1 overall seed Louisville next Friday in Indianapolis.
After the Billikens opened the game on a 7-2 run, the Ducks answered back with an 8-0 spurt of their own. Oregon then used a 14-2 stretch later in the half to open up a double-digit lead by halftime. The Ducks shot 8-11 from three for the game, and never let Saint Louis threaten in the second half.

Streeter LeckaThe game got out of hand almost as soon as it started, when the Wildcats ripped off a 30-9 run. Harvard didn’t make their first field goal until eight minutes into the game. They shot a miserable 7 of 28 from the floor in the first half. Arizona went into halftime up, 40-22. Harvard finished the game making 27.6 percent of its field goals and making just 5 of 18 three pointers.
The Wildcats will go on to face the winner of Sunday’s Ohio State-Iowa State matchup in next week’s Sweet 16. Here’s the updated bracket for the West Region:

Read Article >Michigan dominates 1st half against VCU

USA TODAY SportsMichigan’s 17 percent haltime turnover rate is higher than normal, but it is far below the 29 percent VCU has forced on the season. Without easy transition buckets, the Rams have struggled in the halfcourt. VCU posted just a 32 effective field goal percentage and shot only two free throws in the first half, leading to just 0.92 points per possession.
VCU has a long way to come back against a strong Michigan team in the second half. The Rams will need to get more easy baskets in transition or they will be heading home.

Burke, Olynyk hoping to improve draft stock

USA TODAY SportsBurke struggled a bit in the Wolverines’ second-round win over South Dakota State, scoring just six points on 2-of-12 shooting. The Big 10 Player of the Year did hand out seven assists and also recovered from an injury scare after landing hard on his back.
The swarming VCU defense known as “Havoc” will be a tough test for Burke. A big game against that type of pressure defense would boost the point guard’s draft stock.

Thearon W. HendersonThe Billikens entered the tournament as a dark horse candidate to reach the Final Four. They may be a mid-major program from the Atlantic 10, but this is a team that executes very well on both ends of the floor and is very well coached.
The Ducks may be a No. 12 seed, but just about everyone would say this team was badly under-seeded.
