NCAA basketball bracket 2013, Michigan vs. VCU: Wolverines dominate in 78-53 win

One of the day’s most anticipated matchups turned out to be a one-sided affair as Michigan controlled the action on both ends.

The No. 4 Michigan Wolverines handled No. 5 VCU's pressure defense and shut down the Rams offense on the way to a 78-53 blowout NCAA Tournament win on Saturday. Michigan advances to play the winner of No. 1 Kansas and No. 8 North Carolina in the Sweet 16.

VCU was able to bother point guard Trey Burke, forcing him into seven turnovers, but that wasn't enough. His teammates combined for just five more to limit the number of transition buckets for the Rams. Michigan made life difficult on offense for VCU by forcing it to execute in the half court. The Rams were far from efficient and struggled to keep up with Michigan's offensive onslaught.

After building a 15-point halftime lead, the Wolverines got out in transition to build their lead up over 30, effectively doing to VCU what it had just done to Akron.

Mitch McGary dominated the inside for Michigan. VCU had no match for the 6'10, 250-pound freshman as he put up a double-double with 21 points and 14 rebounds. Sharpshooting guard Troy Daniels struggled for the Rams, making just 1 of 9 from beyond the arc.
