The No. 3 Michigan St. Spartans won their third round tournament game, defeating the No. 6 Memphis Tigers 70-48.
Memphis vs. Michigan State: Spartans fans ready for Sweet 16
It’s business as usual for Michigan State fans, as the Spartans basketball team advanced to the Sweet 16 of the NCAA Tournament.

Head coach Tom Izzo is now an astounding 30-4 against lower seeds in the NCAA Tournament, so Michigan State fans have come to expect these kind of victories. Writer KJ at The Only Colors expressed that sentiment, writing:
16 seasons, 11 Sweet Sixteens. We’ve been here before, so we’ll forego the Dance of Joy.
The Spartans’ defense was particularly impressive, as it held the Tigers to only 19 points in the second half. Memphis had been a quality offensive team for most of the season, making the Michigan State defensive effort that more impressive.
Chris Vannini over at The Only Colors talked about the team’s defensive effort, writing:
Memphis did not play many defenses like MSU over the course of the season. The Tigers had an eFG% of 53.0 entering the game, but shot 34.1 percent on 2s and 21.7 percent on 3s. According to CBS, it was Memphis’ worst regular FG% since 2006.
The game was not without controversy for Michigan State, as Derrick Nix threw a towel at point guard Keith Appling during a huddle. Some wanted to make a big deal out of the incident, but Vaninni included a tweet from former player Draymond Green that helped put the incident in perspective.
Little do they know that's pretty light for a Tom Izzo huddle lmao I love it
