The Louisville Cardinals are headed to the Elite Eight following their 77-69 win over the No. 12 Oregon Ducks on Friday night.
NCAA Tournament 2013 scores, Louisville vs. Oregon: Cardinals defeat Ducks, 77-69
The NCAA Tournament’s top-seeded team, Louisville, continued to impress on Friday night as they marched on to the Elite Eight.
Louisville moved out to a double-digit lead midway through the first half and never looked back. They shot 54 percent from the field and went to the free throw line 26 times. For a team that has been playing their best basketball of the season the past couple weeks, it was another impressive showing from coach Rick Pitino’s bunch.
Russ Smith led the way with 31 points. From the opening tip, he was the best player on the floor, and the Ducks had no answer for him on the offensive end. Through three games, Smith might be the MVP of the NCAA Tournament. Gorgui Dieng had 10 points, nine rebounds and four blocks, while Kevin Ware chipped in with 11 off the bench.
Just as they had done all season, Oregon relied on a balanced scoring attack to get their points. E.J. Singler scored a team-high 15 points, while Arsalan Kazemi recorded a double-double with 11 points and 12 rebounds. Five UO players reached double-digits in scoring.
With the win, Louisville advances to take on the winner of Duke and Michigan State on Sunday afternoon. The winner of that game marches on to the Final Four in Atlanta.
