The No. 15 Marquette Golden Eagles overcame an 11-point second-half deficit to defeat the Rutgers Scarlet Knights, 60-54, on Tuesday at the Louis Brown Athletic Center in Piscataway, N.J.

Marquette found itself down by 10 at halftime on Tuesday against Rutgers, but the Golden Eagles made a late push to earn a hard-fought road win.

Vander Blue scored 22 points, including 14 in the second half, to help the Golden Eagles avoid the upset. Jamil Wilson's three-pointer with 3:06 remaining gave Marquette a 55-52 lead, its first since the opening minute of the game.
Marquette had a shot to take a two-possession lead shortly thereafter, but Junior Cadougan missed two out of three free throws after being fouled on a shot attempt from beyond the arc. Fortunately for the Golden Eagles, Rutgers also missed a host of free throws down the stretch and turned the ball over while down by just two points with less than 30 seconds remaining, allowing Marquette to keep its distance.
Marquette (22-7, 13-4 Big East) remains in position to have a shot at winning the regular season conference title, though it’ll need some help from Georgetown, which sits atop the league at 13-3. The Golden Eagles close out the season at St. John’s on Saturday.
