Patriot League Tournament 2013 results and bracket: Top four seeds dominate in quarterfinals

There were no upsets on the first day of the Patriot League Tournament and the top four seeds will advance to the semifinals on March 9.

Upsets abound on the college basketball landscape, but not in the Patriot League Tournament. On the first day of the conference tournament, every higher-seeded team advanced and did so emphatically, save for the Lehigh Mountain Hawks, who still managed to scrape past the Colgate Red Raiders.

The top seeded Bucknell Bison made easy work of the Navy Midshipmen with a 58-42 win. The Bison were led in scoring by Mike Muscala, who dropped 15 points on the night. Combined with a poor shooting performance from Navy, who hit just 30.6 percent of their shots, the Bison were able to advance easily.

The Navy's service academy compatriots, the Army Black Knights, destroyed the American U. Eagles with a 65-44 win in West Point. Ella Ellis dropped 16 points to lead all scorers on a night the Eagles hit just 9.1 percent of their threes.

The Lafayette Leopards were helped to a 77-54 win by an awful night of shooting from the Holy Cross Crusaders, who made just 34.6 percent of their shots. Seth Hinrichs put away 20 points but Holy Cross' Dave Dudzinski led all scorers with 22 points on the evening in the losing effort.

It took a little more work for the Mountain Hawks to get past Colgate, but they did move on with a 71-64 win after being down 34-30 at halftime.

The tournament will get back underway Saturday with the semifinals with Army paying Bucknell a visit while Lafayette will host Lehigh.
