Louisville vs. Notre Dame final score: Cardinals cruise in season finale, 73-57

Led by a sparkling two-way game from Gorgui Dieng, the Cardinals clinch a share of the Big East crown and the No. 2 seed in the conference tournament.

USA TODAY Sports

Not to be outdone by Marquette and Georgetown — who won earlier Saturday — Louisville outpaced Notre Dame, 73-57, en route to joining the Golden Eagles and Hoyas as co-champions of the Big East. Gorgui Dieng had perhaps the best game of his college career, notching a double-double with 20 points and 11 rebounds. But his biggest contribution came in defending the basket, racking up five blocks and keeping Notre Dame's big men out of the paint.

Louisville set the pace by hitting four of their first five three-pointers, pretty good for a team that has shot just over 32 percent on the season. Notre Dame's double-double machine Jack Cooley got into foul trouble early and never got into rhythm, scoring just seven points on 3-of-9 shooting.

Trailing in the second half, the Irish were forced to play a quick tempo. But that played into the hands of Rick Pitino's team, as Peyton Siva dominated the lane in transition and hit 3-of-6 from downtown to finish with 13 points.

The Cardinals will be the No. 2 seed in next week’s Big East Tournament, with Georgetown as the No. 1 seed because of tiebreakers.
