Andy Enfield agrees to deal with USC

USC is reportedly heavily interested in Florida Gulf Coast coach Andy Enfield after he took the “Dunk City” Eagles to the first Sweet 16 in school history.

USA TODAY Sports

The USC Trojans are tapped Florida Gulf Coast coach Andy Enfield to fill their coaching vacancy, Pete Thamel reported for Sports Illustrated on Monday.

Update: The school made it official on Twitter soon after:

Enfield led the Florida Gulf Coast Eagles to their first NCAA Tournament appearance in school history, and then did even more with the run. The Eagles became the first No. 15 seed in tournament history to reach the Sweet 16 before eventually falling to the Florida Gators.

The Trojans fired coach Kevin O’Neill after he began the season going 7-10, and assistant coach Bob Cantu replaced O’Neill as the interim coach afterwards.

Enfield started his coaching career as a shooting coach for the Milwaukee Bucks and then moved to the Boston Celtics two years later. He was an assistant coach at Florida State before taking over for Florida Gulf Coast at the beginning of the 2011-2012 season. His all-time coaching record is 41-27.
