Connecticut is in the Final Four for a record sixth-straight year, and California won as well as the first night of the Elite Eight in the NCAA Women’s Tournament finished on Monday night.

The Connecticut Huskies are in a world all their own after defeating the No. 2 Kentucky Wildcats 83-53 to become the first team to advance to the Final Four in six consecutive years.

The Wildcats were able to keep it close for the first 10 minutes of the game, but scored just three points in the final 10 minutes of the first half as the Huskies took a 48-26 lead into halftime. The Wildcats missed 13 of their final 14 shots in the half, which led to the game getting out of hand. Breanna Stewart led the Huskies with 21 points, who broke a three-way tie with Stanford and LSU by advancing to the Final Four for the sixth-straight year. Stanford’s streak ended earlier this year when they lost to the Georgia Bulldogs.
California 65 (OT), Georgia 62
After trailing for much of the game, Brittany Boyd hit a couple of free throws as the No. 2 California Golden Bears took the lead, but Anne Armstrong made a layup with 13 seconds left for the No. 4 Georgia Bulldogs to send it into overtime. The Bulldogs faltered in overtime though, as Layshia Clarendon scored four of her 24 points to send the Bears to the Final Four.
