Michael Jordan might be the greatest basketball player who ever lived, but a few of the top players in this year’s NCAA recruiting class said they could beat him one-on-one.

Maybe they were joking, or maybe they’re delusional, but several of the nation’s top high school seniors think they’d stand a chance against the G.O.A.T.

And to clarify, they were talking about Jordan in his prime, not the Jordan of today.
USA Today asked eight high school seniors set to play in Saturday’s Jordan Brand Classic how they thought they would fare against him one-on-one, and four said Jordan would lose.
Out of all the high schoolers who thought they’d win, Duke-bound Matt Jones predicted the largest margin of victory for himself, saying Jordan would lose 11-5.
“Well, I’m feeling a little generous today, so I think he’d get his five points. This is how it would go: I’d get ball first, then I’d score the first few baskets because he’d definitely be sleeping on me. Then I’d go to my old-man game and take it to the hole every time. No matter how small the foul was I’d call ball every time until I made it. So it’s gonna be a long grind-it-out win. But I’d win.”
Kentucky commit Aaron Harrison also seemed confident, saying Jordan would score "here and there," but would eventually fall 11-7.
Dakari Johnson (Kentucky) and Rondae Hollis-Jefferson (Arizona) said they would beat Jordan as well, while Chris Walker (Florida), Wayne Selden (Kansas), Kennedy Meeks (North Carolina) and Nigel Williams-Goss (Washington) predicted a win for the Hall of Famer.
To be fair, it’s not exactly clear how serious Johnson, Hollis-Jefferson, Harrison and Jones were. For all we know, some or all of their comments could have been in jest. But if they weren’t, then they are either delusional or the NBA is going to be flat-out ridiculous in a couple years.
