Remy Abell to transfer from Indiana

After two seasons coming off the bench as a Hoosier, the sophomore guard looks for a fresh start and a potential starting role.

Andy Lyons

Sophomore guard Remy Abell is leaving Indiana, according to CBS Sports.

After graduating from Eastern High in Louisville, Abell became just the sixth Kentucky native to play for Indiana and the first since Tom Boone in 1969. He averaged three points per game in just over eight minutes of playing time his freshman year. The emergence of freshman Yogi Ferrell and the presence of Jordan Hulls, who each logged almost 30 minutes per game, may have cut into his playing time his sophomore year. However, he did see his minutes increase to 12.5 and averaged 4 points per game.

Abell's departure further eviscerates the Hoosiers' roster, with Victor Oladipo and Cody Zeller entering the NBA Draft and role players Christian Watford and Hulls graduating. With those players, the Hoosiers won the 2012-2013 Big Ten title after finishing 14-4 in conference play. They only made it as far as the Sweet 16 however, before losing to Syracuse 61-50.
