Shane Larkin’s NBA decision will come down to draft deadline

The Miami Hurricanes will lose at least five of their top six scorers from last season, and could lose the sixth if Larkin declares for the NBA Draft on Sunday.

USA TODAY Sports

Miami guard Shane Larkin is going to leave Hurricanes fans hanging until the very end. The sophomore announced on Wednesday that he will wait until the NBA Draft deadline on Sunday to reveal his intentions for next year.

Rumors began circulating earlier Wednesday afternoon when Palm Beach Post writer Jorge Milian tweeted that Larkin would not return to school.

The Miami floor general quickly put that rumor to rest, however, when he responded just a few minutes later:

Don’t listen to whoever put the rumor out that I declared. It isn’t true. I will make an announcement Sunday at 6 about my future.

And so it will come down to the last possible moment as Miami waits to see if Larkin will be the lone player out of the team’s top six scorers to return for 2013-14. Larkin put up 14.5 points and handed out 4.6 assists per contest last season, both team highs. He also shot a team-best 40.6 percent from three.

The 5’11 guard projects to be either a late first-round or early second-round pick if he decides to leave for the NBA.
