Cory Jefferson will return to Baylor for senior season

As Baylor awaits a decision from one star player on his basketball future, they got word on Thursday that another will return to school for his senior year.

The Baylor Bears took one step closer toward returning to the NCAA Tournament in 2014 with Thursday's announcement that forward Cory Jefferson would bypass the NBA Draft and return to school.

The announcement was made via Baylor’s official men’s basketball Twitter feed:

Jefferson’s return is huge news for a Baylor club looking to return to the NCAA Tournament in 2014 after a one-year absence this past March.

The junior forward averaged 13.3 points and eight rebounds per game during the 2013 campaign, including an especially strong finish in the Bears’ NIT title run in early April. Jefferson scored in double-digits in Baylor’s last six games, and poured in at least 20 points in each of their last four contests.

Jefferson’s return could become even more important in the coming days, as Baylor also awaits a decision from freshman Isaiah Austin on his future. The 7’1 center is still weighing his NBA options after averaging over 13 points and eight rebounds a game in his first season in Waco.
