Rutgers coaching search: Dan Hurley, Lawrence Frank top Scarlet Knights’ list

Rutgers is looking for a new coach after firing Mike Rice on Wednesday. They are reportedly looking at URI’s Dan Hurley and Detroit’s Lawrence Frank.

The Rutgers Scarlet Knights are targeting Rhode Island Rams head coach Dan Hurley and Detroit Pistons head coach Lawrence Frank as potential candidates to replace Mike Rice, according to a Yahoo! Sports report.

Hurley has coached the Rams for only one year, leading them to an 8-21 record. Before that, he coached at Wagner for two seasons, going 13-17 and 25-5 in each year. He established his name at Saint Benedict’s Preparatory School, going 223-21 and building one of the top high school programs in the country.

Frank is in his second year with the Pistons, never finishing higher than fourth in the Central Division. He previously spent six full seasons with the New Jersey Nets, getting fired at the beginning of the 2009-10 season after an 0-16 start.

Rutgers fired Rice early on Wednesday after an ESPN report revealed abusive behavior toward his players during practices. He went 44-51 in three seasons with the Scarlet Knights.
