Ex-Rutgers G Eli Carter transferring to Florida

The Rutgers guard will likely apply for a waiver to play next season due to the circumstances of his transfer.

After being courted by schools from all over the country in the last few weeks, Rutgers sophomore Eli Carter has decided to transfer to Florida. Carter announced his decision on Twitter Tuesday afternoon.

Carter, who was the Scarlet Knights’ leading scorer last season, is the fifth player to leave Rutgers in the wake of the scandal that cost Mike Rice his job.

A 6’2, 195-pound combo guard, Carter averaged 15 points, three rebounds and two assists on 38/32/86 shooting percentages as a sophomore, before a fractured fibula ended his season in February.

Carter will likely apply for a waiver that would allow him to play next season, but it’s unclear as to whether the NCAA would grant it to him.

If he was eligible, it would be a major boost for a Florida team that has to replace Kenny Boynton, Mike Rosario and Erik Murphy from last year's Elite Eight team.
