Rio Adams leaving Kansas basketball

In a dizzying turn of events, the freshman shooting guard has finally concluded that he is transferring from Kansas.

USA TODAY Sports

Freshman shooting guard Rio Adams will transfer out of Kansas, according to the University Daily Kansan. After backing out of an announced transfer last week, Adams finally fell back to his original decision to leave the program after just one season in Lawrence.

Joining an experienced Jayhawks roster, Adams struggled to get on the floor for Bill Self’s team. He played less than five minutes per game this season and logged just 1.1 points per contest. Behind senior Elijah Johnson and freshman sensation Ben McLemore, there just weren’t many minutes for Adams.

When the 6’3 guard did get significant minutes, like the March 14 blowout of Texas Tech, the Seattle native showed his pedigree. He scored a career-high 11 points on four of five shooting, including hitting both of the 3-point attempts.

It has been suggested that Adams would seek a school closer to his home state of Washington, but not details have emerged about which school he has been in contact with.
