Marshall transfer DeAndre Kane joins Iowa State

The guard noted the Cyclones’ up-tempo play as a big reason for his decision.

Former Marshall point guard DeAndre Kane has officially transferred to Iowa State, the school announced on Friday.

Kane, who was named All-Conference USA second-team last season, will be eligible to play immediately for the Cyclones after graduating from Marshall this summer. The 6’4 point guard ranked 11th nationally in assists per game last year and averaged more than 15 points per game in each of his three seasons with the Thundering Herd.

Originally from Pittsburgh, Kane chose to head across the country to play for the Cyclones because of their style of play and how he will fit in with the team.

“The up-tempo offense ISU runs played a major role in my decision,” Kane said in a release. “I like to get up and down the court. The style that Coach Hoiberg allows his team to play fits my game perfectly.”

Iowa State lost four of their biggest contributors on the perimeter from last season, so Kane will be a welcome addition. He’s more experienced than most transfers and has been consistently productive throughout his career. Given the number of players leaving and Kane’s track record, he could push to be the team’s starting point guard.
