In addition to signing Marshall transfer DeAndre Kane, Iowa State announced on Friday that Doc Sadler will be joining the coaching staff. Sadler, who was the director of basketball operations at Kansas last season, spent six seasons as the head coach at Nebraska. He was also an assistant coach at Texas Tech in the early part of his career.

While he led the Cornhuskers to three NIT appearances during his tenure, Sadler’s most successful coaching stint was at UTEP, where he led the Miners to a 27-win season and a spot in the NCAA tournament.

Cyclones head coach Fred Hoiberg is excited about the experience Sadler brings to the program.

“Doc brings a wealth of experience to our staff and is respected in the profession,” Hoiberg said in a release. “His Big 12 coaching experience and extensive recruiting background will help on the road and make him a very valuable member of our staff.”

Sadler will replace T.J. Otzelberger on ISU’s staff after Otzelberger took a position with Washington.
