Rodney Hood injury: Duke forward dealing with hurt Achilles

The transfer from Mississippi State should be ready to go for the upcoming season despite a recent injury.

USA TODAY Sports

Duke Blue Devils forward Rodney Hood suffered an Achilles injury Wednesday during practice for the 2013 USA Basketball Men's World University Games and left the team's tryouts in Colorado Springs, Colo., according to a release from Duke.

The injury is not a tear and will sideline Hood for four to six weeks. He’s expected to be available with plenty of time to spare before practice for the upcoming college basketball season begins in October, according to Steve Wiseman of the Durham Herald-Sun. Hood does not need surgery for the injury.

Hood, a 6’8 sophomore, was one of 16 finalists for the 12-man World University Games team that will compete July 7-16 in Russia.

Hood, from Meridian, Miss., averaged 10.3 points per game for Mississippi State in 2011-12, and was named to the SEC All-Freshmen team his one season in Starkville. He transferred to Duke after his freshman season and sat out last season. He's only the fourth player to transfer to Duke under coach Mike Krzyzewski, who is entering his 34th season with the Blue Devils. The last transfer to land at Duke was Seth Curry.
