Isaiah Whitehead, Ja’Quan Newton may commit as a package deal

The pair of top basketball prospects believe they’ll complement each other’s games well at the next level.

Class of 2014 college basketball prospects Isaiah Whitehead and Ja’Quan Newton indicated in a pair of tweets Friday they may be a package deal when considered college choices. CBSSports.com’s Jeff Borzello confirmed that plan with a text message received from Whitehead on Friday.

“We are thinking about it,” he told CBSSports.com. “We are close friends and we complement each other’s game a lot.”

The biggest schools the guards have common scholarship offers from are the Minnesota Golden Gophers and the Syracuse Orange, though Whitehead told Borzello other possibilities are out there and it "could be anywhere."

Whitehead is consistently the higher-ranked player of the two when it comes to the recruiting experts. The 6’4 shooting guard’s stock shot up after the NBA Top 100 camp in Charlottesville, Va. in early June, and the Brooklyn native is now the 20th ranked player in the Class of 2014, according to the 247 Composite rankings.

Newton, a 6’2 point guard from Philadelphia, is ranked No. 49 in the 247 Composite rankings and is currently 10th among point guards in the Class of 2014.
