UTEP transfer Chris Washburn heads to TCU, according to report

A former Top 150 player out of high school is headed to the Horned Frogs.

USA TODAY Sports

Washburn was a freshman last season and averaged 4.4 points, 2.9 rebounds and 14.9 minutes per game. Rivals.com had rated the 6’8 forward a three-star recruit and the No. 119 prospect in the Class of 2012 out of Grand Prairie, Texas. In June, UTEP coach Tim Floyd told the El Paso Times said a handful of factors played into his decision to leave UTEP. He wanted more minutes, and he wanted to get closer to home -- both of which would seem to be solved by choosing TCU.

Floyd also said Washburn was not happy the way he was portrayed on an El Paso TV station when Washburn was linked to an alleged assault at a bar in May.

Washburn will sit out next season. He's the second Division I transfer TCU coach Trent Johnson has landed this offseason. In May, former Pittsburgh guard Trey Zeigler transferred to the Horned Frogs.
