Point guard Dante Exum will not play college basketball in the 2013-14 season, and remains undecided on what his future plans will be after that, according to ESPN.

The fast-rising prospect will be eligible for the 2014 NBA Draft, but in the meantime, he will not play in the NCAA.

Exum, who lives in Australia, will graduate high school in October and is eligible to enroll in college in the United States in December. That would have made him able to play at a top-tier school right as the conference season starts to heat up. He also told ESPN he is 50-50 on whether he will play college ball after 2013-14.
“Schools have been saying I can start in early December and play this season,” Exum told ESPN. “But if college is the option, I’ll stay in Australia, do workouts with the national team and then go to college next August. Playing this season in college is not an option.”
ESPN analyst Chad Ford has rated the 6’6 Exum as the No. 3 overall prospect in 2014, behind Kansas commit Andrew Wiggins and Kentucky’s Julius Randle. He broke out at the Nike Hoop Summit in May when he established himself against several 2013 first-round picks. As SB Nation’s Jonathan Tjarks put it:
Whatever Exum decides to do, the sky is the limit. For the most part, the very best basketball players all have elite size and athleticism for their position and the skill-set to attack a defense in multiple ways. Exum has all those things. As cliche as it sounds, he can be as good as he wants to be. When he’s 25, he could be one of the best players in the world.
If he does choose to attend college next year, Exum has narrowed his choice to five schools: Indiana, North Carolina, Kentucky, Michigan and Oregon.
